MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS (Recorded during past 24 hours)
MONSOON WATCH
  • The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat. 22.0°N/Long. 60.0°E, Lat. 22.0°N/Long. 69.0°E, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Indore, Seoni, Pendra, Ambikapur, Daltonganj, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Raxaul.
  • MAIN  WEATHER OBSERVATIONS (Recorded during past 24 hours)
  • Widespread rainfall has occurred over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka, fairly widespread over northeastern states, West Bengal & Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and scattered over Jharkhand, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu. The chief amounts of rainfall in cm (≥ 4 cm) reported at 1430 hours IST of today are: Cheerapunji-10, Burdwan-8, Gulbarga and Agumbe-6 each, North Lakhimpur and Durg-5 each and Kakinada, Jalpaiguri, Harnai, Udgir, Tezpur, Passighat, Shirali, Bhawanipatina, Bagdogra and Nalgonda-4each.
Synoptic features (based on 1430 hrs IST Observations)
  • The western disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood is still moving away eastwards.
  • An upper air trough in lower levels runs from East Rajasthan to northeast Assam across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan west Bengal, northwest Bangladesh and Meghalaya with embedded cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood at 1.5 Km above mean sea level.
  • The upper air cyclonic circulation over East Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast persists in lower levels.
Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance
  • Fairly widespread rainfall activity over west coast during next 2 days and increase thereafter.
  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over northeastern states during next 2-3 days.
Satellite Observations:
  • KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 1430 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Meghalaya, Orissa, Maharashtra, south Chhattisgarh, Eastcentral & adjoining Westcentral Arabian Sea, North and Westcentral Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over remaining parts of the country except west Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
Major features of weather forecast (upto 1430 hours IST of 23-Jun-2010).
  • Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala during next 48 hours and increase thereafter.
  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity over northeastern states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread to scattered rainfall over central, east and rest Peninsular India & Maharashtra.
  • Isolated rain/thundershowers may occur over western Himalayan region during next 48 hours.
  • Isolated duststorm/thunderstorms may occur over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
  • No significant change in maximum temperatures over northwest India.
Warning
  • Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh and heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours.
Weather Outlook (upto 1430 hours IST of 25-Jun-2010)
  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity would occur along west coast and over northeastern states with isolated heavy to very heavy falls.
