| | It is in the month of July that the humid southwest summer monsoon slowly sweeps across the country, nature dons a fresh look and a pleasant weather sets in. Monsoon is also considered a sign of prosperity. It is this time of the year when children go back to their schools after a fun-filled summer vacation and the admission season in colleges and universities comes to an end, making way for the new academic session. July also witnesses the beginning of Parliament's Monsoon Session.
The month of July also brings with it the deadline for filing income tax returns. In order to guide you through this key financial process, we bring you articles that outline the requisite information, resources and online services.

A guide to filing Income Tax Returns
Income tax is a tax paid to the central government on personal income. It is the direct tax paid on income by an individual or a company/firm within a given financial year (April-March). The Income Tax Act, 1961 as amended by Finance Act, 2010, under Section 139 makes it obligatory upon any person to file return if the person's total income or the total income of any other person in respect of which he is assessable under this Act during the previous year exceeded the maximum amount which is not chargeable to income tax.
